The Remo’s family has been faithfully serving visitors of Aberavon Beach for over 50 years.
Francesco ‘Franco’ DiFrancesco, father of Raymondo ‘Remo’ Difrancesco, started selling chips and mushy peas from a beach hut to the fairground’s visitors way back in 1967. It was only a summer business, but Franco felt that it could be more, and so, with his own two hands, Franco decided to build a small brick and tin shack to serve Aberavon’s visitors all year round. This became the popular “Franco’s Fish Bar”.
Ray started working with his father at Franco’s in 1970 whilst studying to be an architect. As his family grew, architectural aspirations were put on the back burner and Ray took over Franco’s full time whilst Franco himself moved on to other business ventures.
Ray soon established himself as the most famous fryer in the area and steadily grew the trade over the next 3 decades. In 1997, the shack was rebuilt as a bigger and better chip shop and became a terrific success. With more and more visitors flocking to Aberavon Beach annually, Remo spotted further opportunity. Now that all his children were grown up, Remo decided to invest all he had in the construction of Remo’s using his very own drawings and building design. Cafe Remo’s (Now just Remo’s” was completed in the summer of 2005. We have been proud to welcome visitors to our coffee shop, ice-cream parlour and restaurant ever since.
